Ministering

A few days ago, my daughter and I were having lunch at the mall when a young man approached us. I was not able to hear him clearly, but I thought he was begging. I asked my daughter if she had any cash, but immediately, the young man shouted, “I don’t want your money,” and walked off.

He approached us again and asked if he could join us. I told him yes as I started to clear the table to leave. I guess he realized what I was doing and had a change of mind.

However, he returned after noticing that I sat back down and asked me if I could feed him. Only then did I realize that he was not able to feed himself. It was a pleasure to feed him and converse with him at the same time.

I was so happy to be able to help someone from the disabled community and one that I am not being paid to work with.

The Importance of Training for Leadership

It is interesting when the term human resource is used, but loosely, because it has no meaning. Studies have revealed the role and responsibility of this department to include, but is not limited to, recruiting, training, rewarding and assessing. Human resource has come a long way. Human Resource Management is the process of overseeing all aspects of an organization’s approach to hiring and retaining staff, including their pay and benefits, working conditions, and health and safety. This is a crucial role and should not be taken lightly. However, in order to be able to function in this capacity and execute the roles and functions efficiently and effectively, one must have the proper training. This training goes deeper than reading from papers put together with selective bits and pieces of information. Would you go to a doctor, dentist or an accountant who has not received formal training in the field of whatever profession he/she is working?

After working with a particular company, I began to feel inspired to further my studies so that I am better able to serve at higher levels and, of course, get an increased wage. I choose to pursue a masters in Industrial-Organizational Psychology with a minor in Human Resource. It is interesting to know how much I have learnt and need to apply to my job for more positive outcomes of the company. Years of service (experience) alone is not enough for any individual to be placed in management in any company. Hence, in my opinion, when a worker seems to master the practical aspect of the job he/she should be sent to get formal training. Remember, these individuals will be working with adults, making it essential to be trained in how to relate at professional levels.

More and more I am understanding the reason the Bible speaks of the qualities that a leader should possess. A leader must be able to lead his/her own home prior to being given the opportunity to lead even a department in any company. We live in an era where education is pivotal for leadership too. Southern New Hampshire suggested 10 qualities of a good leader:

1) Focus on Leadership Building.

2) Have a bias for action- Do not just talk but do action and do so truthfully.

3) Garner Credibility- Have the ability to be trusted by the team that you lead.

4) Possess Self-Awareness- Be constantly aware of what you are doing, even in nonverbal communication.

5) Exhibit Humility- Not thinking more of yourself and less of others.

6) Empower Team- Providing opportunity for the team to grow, not by enslaving selective staff.

7) Stay Authentic.

8) Present Yourself as Constant and Consistent.

9) Become a Role Model for Followers- Set a good example and create a positive work environment free from animosity.

10) Be Fully Present.

Secret Keeper

As I sat in my devotion exercise this morning, I reflected on an area that I went through while nurturing four (4) children. (This was the worst and most difficult time of my life. Not saying that my childhood was any better). But as I read the scripture I recall and recounted the numerous things the children did while they grew up. These I kept to myself and have not for a moment let even they themselves know. AT THIS MOMENT I THOUGHT OF HOW MY FATHER IN HEAVEN KEPT MY BEHAVIOURS TO HIMSELF. The behaviours that are too embarrassing to let anyone know about!

Thank you Daddy Jesus for taking care of me! I know that if it was not for your your love and grace I would not be here! Help me to fulfill your purpose!

Short-Changed

Guilty as charged!

So often we short-changed our very own self and very seldom aware of it too! However, if or when such is discovered do not be afraid to refrain. Many of us were raised to shortchange ourselves and also settle for less, (especially our women).

Listen, a new day has dawn! A new era is here! Let us place some value on ourselves! We were created for great things! We were given the key to achieve! We are wonderfully made in our Creators sight!

But we cannot do it alone. As the sayings go, “No man is an island, no man stands alone” and “United we stand and divided we fall!”

If we have just realized that we are shortchanged, it is better late than never! So, let us seek to upgrade our status! We must start with baby steps even if its crawling. We will get there.

Secondly, we cannot do it alone. Let us seek help! WE CAN DO THIS!
